Serving as nature’s ancient disinfectant, Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) is the most effective chlorine disinfectant⁽¹⁾. It is completely natural, non-hazardous and safe to humans. Hypochlorous Acid (HOCI) is a biocide that is naturally produced by the white blood cells in our bodies and plays a vital role in the immune system, killing pathogens through oxidation and chlorination. Utilising the power of nature, Hypochlorous Acid can be synthesised through electrolysis.
Hypochlorous Acid (HOCI) has been extensively researched, over the last 30 years, as a powerful environmental cleaning solution⁽²⁾. It is proven to be highly effective, including against Covid-19⁽³⁾ and Norovirus⁽⁴⁾ Research suggests that Hypochlorous Acid (HOCI) may be 70-80 times more effective than sodium hypochlorite (chlorine bleach)⁽²⁾⁽⁵⁾.
Our HypoAfrica™ electrolyzed water systems utilize single cell technology to create Hypochlorous Acid. Due to the low molecular weight and zero charge of HOCl, it is able to penetrate pathogen cell walls deeper and faster than other chlorine-based disinfectants. The product has been tested rigorously in regards to it’s bacteria-killing properties and is trusted and effective, often used in hospitals in both the US and Japan.
The cell must be manufactured in high grade titanium. Systems using electrolysis cells that are manufactured from lower quality alloys will deteriorate quickly and may not be generating Hypochlorous Acid.
If the electrolysis cell is made from steel or other lower grade metals, the electrolysis cell will deteriorate very quickly and will generate harmful chromium compounds that can be carcinogenic.
Unlike competitors, HypoAfrica™ systems electrolyzed water systems utilise single cell technology. The systems do not contain a diaphragm (or membrane) but are a single stream system that generates only an anolyte solution.
The pH of the generated anolyte solution depends on several variables such as the pH of the additive, the pH of the flow water, and the amperage settings on the electrolysis cells.
This technological advancement means that Hypochlorous Acid can be generated without the byproduct of sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The result is a more stable product, with greater control over the final pH produced. Variations in local water pH are not a factor, when using the HypoAfrica™ system.
